"About Deniz Sağdıç"
The artist who was born in 1980 in Mersin, Turkey, began her art education in Mersin University’s Faculty of Fine Arts in 1999. She was included in various art projects during her education in the university, where she graduated at the top of her class in 2003. Her aspire to make it as an artist encouraged her to move to Istanbul, the art capital of Turkey, where she established her own studio years later. Her distinctive plastic style that involved liquid forms and portraits which, she developed in her early ages quickly became the artist’s signature. Her work was celebrated by critics, collectors, architects and interior designers and installed in various architectural spaces and design products. Sagdiç was eager to diversify her art and try different mediums. She carried out different forms of art by creating video art and photography. Her unique project in 2016 called Ready Remade where she converts nostalgic objects that are no more relevant, into artworks that people can relate, was very critically acclaimed for its conceptual depth and strong ties with upcycling. Her latest project Denim Skin is her on-going love affair with Denim. She converts used denim into pieces to deliver stories about various subjects like equality and democracy. Besides her ongoing project where she recycles used denim into art, she currently travels to different cities and creates denim art pieces’ custom made for each city with the contribution of the people living in each city.
